No matter how many column inches are written about the Trump administration to analyze its behavior, the facts do not change and they lead to an inescapable conclusion, best summarized by Bruce Springsteen on the opening night of his European tour in mid-May: “In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”

It’s been another roller-coaster month for the United States and our global allies as the Trump executive branch demonstrates what happens when “tit for tat” decisions are made without respect to the longer-term consequences. Those consequences affect citizens, the global markets, and a global diplomacy infrastructure that was built after two world wars, ongoing Mideast conflicts, and tensions with nation-state players like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. 

Even after three weeks, it is hard to accept the startling changes in the world flooding from the Trump administration. If more citizens had read Project 2025, would that have changed their votes and the outcome of the last election? Did we mistake the playbook as less consequential than it has turned out to be?

We seem to have come to a reckoning point in American history where explanations we have relied upon for years should be re-examined.  From various analyses of voting data, many are surprised that it’s white people who made the difference on Trump’s numbers. We need to  better understand the issues that make a difference to voters of all races and ethnicities, and how to present them better going forward, even from thin minority positions in both Houses. There is a mid-term election in two years.
